HIGH TEA! - Its on again!!

YES! last years High tea was a great success and a huge amount of fun!

We raised over $6000.00 with the help of the Grand masonic lodge of Victoria and in doing so we were able to help two darling children have a happy moment in their very short lives and help their wish come true.

SO! yes it is on again this year and while the theme last year was "cupcakes" this year it is "Victorian rose"

Seeing as our lodge Zetland lodge in Kyneton is having their 150th birthday and seeing as we the ladies of the lodge are having such a lot of fun putting together the lodges special day we will be continuing the theme of stepping back in time and so the "high tea" will be the Victorian rose.

We will be giving all monies to the Starlight children's foundation again this year and hope to put a smile on a child's face if just for a moment or two.

This year I hope my mother again and my sisters too will all be coming from interstate to join us and help a little too! (smiles)
Last year mum cooked over 250 scones on the morning and they were delish!

We made hundreds of little cupcakes and they were enjoyed along with all the other goodies found on the tables.

some of the ladies having a bit of fun!

some more enjoying the day.

A couple of grandchildren!! too

My mum helping me ice cupcakes late into the night.

Now it is like this dear friends, I need idea's lots of ideas for the high tea. What to eat and what to have as raffles and auctions all in the theme

"VICTORIAN ROSE"

High tea on the last Saturday in July 2009.

I hope you can all help with a suggestion or two and this time I truly need it and as you know I love things to be very decadent and special so am looking for some great ideas to make it so!

HELP!! Please!! (I know you can)

This is my Friday - looking for help and advise!!

I am no help with ideas for your tea but I so admire you all for what you have accomplished in the past and what you are doing this year. I had a nephew in Indiana USA who was the recipient of such a wish before he passed away at age 3 - it meant the world to all of us.

I'm not sure this is a reasonable suggestion, but every time I read about clotted cream (which I have never had) my mouth waters! Perhaps cream and scones? And flowers, lots of lovely flowers.

That's a great way of raising money for a special cause, Lee-ann. I hope it goes well.

What a great cause Lee Ann! I know you'll have such yummy treats there.
How about some mini cream puffs filled with either a chicken salad or fresh cream and berries?
Nuts breads with cream cheese are always good too.
Can't wait to see what you do!

Oh, Lee-ann!!

I've been longing to have a tea for three years!! And something always seems to prevent---weather, or an unexpected away-from-home, or illness---and this year I'm determined to have my Lawn Tea, for all the neighbor ladies and girls.

I've made my menu list over and over, and it always includes chicken salad (either in sandwiches or little puff shells, as suggested above), and cucumber sandwiches, and several strictly Southern things, like asparagus rollups and Paminna Cheese triangles on thin bread, as well as Lemon Tea Bread, which is more like small loaves of pound cake, which you can also place on the cooling rack and glaze with a lemon glaze. You make it several days ahead, wrap and let it "season."

I got out the recipe to send you, as it's one of those dump-it-all-in-the-mixer-bowl-and-whirl things, but it doesn't say how many pans it makes (we do it in the smallest disposable loaf pans from the grocery store).

I'm gonna make a batch, just to see the quantity---it makes four or five mini-loaves, and we just slice it and make a pretty ring on a platter.

I'm so pleased with your lovely arrangements, and wish you had that clickety thing that would make the pictures go larger, so we could see all the details. Don't mind me---I don't even know how to PUT pictures on my blog.

This is SO inspiring!!

Hi there,
Thanks for stopping by my blog and visiting. Glad you enjoyed it. I was tickled by the high tea party. How lovely. It's sad that the art of afternoon tes is almost gone nowadays. Using lovely china and having a teaparty is just lovely. My grandson recently attended a french teaprty for a little girls in his class (they are 6yrs old) and the girls had to wear pretty dresses and the boys shirt and tie. My grandson wore a maroon beret with a fake French moustache, shirt and pants. The girls wore the most cutest little dresses with feather boas etc. They had a bubble machine and bouncy castle and a tea party with all sorts of pretty cakes, just like your party. Hope you all do it again!!

My favourite scone is blueberry and lemon with Devon cream. I always have this when I go to our Tea Room.

High Tea there always comes with dainty little sandwiches, savoury toast rounds with radish slices and cheese, mini quiche tartlets, lavender shortcake cookies and the plates are always garnished with edible flowers such as violets or nasturtiums.

I wish I could come too! I love High Teas!

Dear Lee-ann ~~ Nice to hear from you. You are doing a great job raising money to help cheildren in need. Nice pic of your Mum helping ice cakes. And the wedding was lovely in the previous post.
The cold weather came in so suddenly didn't it. And we really don't need to break any more records.
ake great care, my friend.
Love, Merle.

Oh, that looks wonderful...! And what a fabulous organization. Do you have room for one more person? :-)

My favorites were always asparagus roll-ups, and of course you can never go wrong with cream puffs made with choux pastry. And you can fill some of the cream puffs with whipped cream, and some of them with savory fillings such as cheese or crab salad.

Let us know how you make out.

Hi Leeann,
Looking forward to returning to your High Tea this year! I don't mind what food you have - you always put on a fantastic spread.
Ideas for auctions and raffle prizes...if the theme is to be Victorian Rose, why not include items with that theme - writing paper/note cards, cup and saucer set, melamine trays, linen, etc. all with roses on? Even a couple of roses in pots?

I am wondering if your tea has taken place. I hope it was wonderful. If it hasn't taken place, serving tea with rose petals in the tea or in a butter sandwich would be lovely. Use pesticide free rose petals. You could cut the bread for sandwiches in a rose or flower shape. I love egg salad with a small amount of chile paste for tea sandwiches. Enjoy!

Lee-Ann, when I think Victorian, I think lace, so I suggest you use something lacy, even if it is simply paper doilies. For me, presentation is everything, and a quick online search turned up 2 inspiring sites: victoriamanor.com has a nice high tea menu, and miramontcastle.org/tearoom/tea-room.html has some beautiful and inspiring photos. I love the idea of a little dessert plate with petit fours or other small goodies. You might try floating small rose-scented candles in bowls of water. If you have rose petals, you could scatter some in the water (unless you think they will be come water-logged too quickly). I think a few quick trips to your local thrift shops could turn up some inexpensive bowls to use for the floating candles. Another idea would be to hit the thrifts for vintage china cups and saucers, which you could fill with something (small plants, real or dried flowers, floating candles, etc.) to use as centerpieces. For raffle prizes, I would look for items that are either handmade or vintage. Maybe you have local artists or crafts people willing to donate their handmade goods? A beautiful painting would fit the theme, an antique item such as a parasol or beaded purse would be nice -- really, any attractive item that would appeal to women would be suitable. Hope these ideas help! Have a fabulous event! I'll look forward to seeing your photos.
