Rhubarb............Now you see it now you don't!

Home Harvest - Rhubarb
There is nothing nicer then on a cold afternoon, as it is here today then going to the garden and pulling some rhubarb cleaning it, cooking it, and then eating it.
This is just what my dear hubby and I did about an hour ago.
There is still some left for next time - as there is not much in our dormant garden at the moment it is nice to see it out there.

Cooked within minutes and ready to eat.

Just adding a little fresh cream.

Hubby loves Rhubarb and his comment here was take the photo quick I want to eat it.

That has warmed us up for sure.

About the whiskey evening

The dinner for the whiskey night on a very cold and infact snow fell too, evening was a great success and we had almost 90 people there so we had enough warm comfort food for them all and the whiskey well and truly warmed those who had the tastings.

We had lots of raffles and we had much laughter and not to forget the haggis (yes! haggis) it was very nice and cooked just right if I do say so myself. They feasted on roasted chicken 25 of them and baked potatoes in foil with sour cream, beans and carrots with haggis and chicken gravy. This was served to them all and then we had a huge banquet table filled with various desserts like custard tarts, cheese cakes, lemon sponges, pavlova, and many, many more to choose from.

We also had a surprise for Rob (my hubby) as this week he turns 60 years old so we had a huge cake with candles and he was duly embarrassed. The lights were turned off and he did not know what was going on but while the lights were off we all put on our hidden party hats and then when the lights came back on he was looking at a sea of party hats with people laughing and cheering..........then I took the cake out and we all sang "happy birthday" it was a good secret kept by all of the people there.

I am off now to see the many, many lovely friends I have not visited over the past two weeks.

O! and believe it or not the plumber is to be here this Monday! (I will believe it when I see it for sure)

This is my Saturday - warmed with the blessing of being safe and happy.

Mmmm, rhubarb....we love it, especially just the way you've cooked it! And strawberry/rhubarb pie..yum!
What a time you've had waiting for the plumber. Poor thing! I hope he comes soon. Renovations are miserable at best, but this ads insult to injury!
Your whiskey night sounds like a blast. What a wonderful meal you all had.
Lovely to "see" you. Thanks for visiting :)

Sounds like we missed a great night..would have been hilarious to see Rob's face! As it turns out, Ken is on hols. and would not have had to go to work the next day, so we could have accepted your invite after all! Bummer. Never mind - see you tomorrow!

PS Can you bring some rhubarb to Amanda's, if you have a few sticks left in your garden? Ken loves it too...another thing he and Rob have in common ;-)

Lee-Ann thanks for stopping by and seeing what has been going on in my life lately. We are getting ready to go back to Hospice house this morning to see Betty quickly because it is her daughters birthday today and we want to take her a birthday present. This is a bad time for her with her mother laying there dying each and every day.
Sounds like you had a great celebration. I have never had rhubard with cream!! I would imagine it would be delicious though. I have not had it in years since we moved to the South!! Happy Birthday to Rob. He is still young. I have 2 years on him yet..Sandy

How wonderful you had a good harvest of rhubarb! My plant is going crazy too, and I think I will be freezing some this week because there is no way to eat it all fresh at once! Your night out sounds like SO MUCH FUN (minus the haggis....lol), and the surprise birthday party for your dh just topped it off. That is not one he will be forgetting anytime soon. :o) Hope you see the whites of the plumber's eyes for sure on Monday! And yes, I would love to see a kangaroo photo (responding to your comment on my blog). :o) We certainly don't have those here!

That rhubarb looks delish!! I make a wonderful rhubarb crisp that Bill just loves..
Your whiskey night sounds such fun and Happy Birthday to Rob!
I know you'll be so glad to see that plumber on Monday (make him a rhubarb pie or something so he sticks around and gets the job done!)

My mother loved rhubarb. I am not keen.
Sounds like you have had a busy time. I laughed about the men discussing what to do...dont they all do that!
Hope your plumbing woes are over.

Happy 60th to Rob!

Have you tried rhubarb as a crumble? You make it exactly the same way as apple crumble but substitute the apple with rhubarb and have it with hot custard. Mmmm mmmm...

Glad your evening went so well. The food sounds lovely, but I'd be a bit dubious about the haggis...not having a drop of Scottish blood in my veins.

That rhubarb looks delicious and I bet it tasted even better, and doesn't the cream make the world of difference.

I loved the look of your cosy warm fire behind your hubby too. Nothing quite like it on a cold evening, is there?

I hope your renovations proceed quickly WHEN the plumber eventually turns up.

Rhubarb is a favorite but seldom had treat of mine. We don't grow it and it costs so much at the produce market. I usually limit myself to a once a year treat.

Bet your husband was shocked to see all those party hats and a cake. Fun that you could surprise him.

Rhubarb, yes. Haggis? I didn't know it traveled outside of Scotland.
