"Show & Tell" Friday

This weeks show & tell from me is the humble horse troughs.
Many years ago a man by the name of George Bill had a vision that no animal would be without water and so when he passed away it was made know to every town and every council that should they apply to Bill's Trust after his death in 1927 the monies would be made available to them to put a trough in their town............well they were so popular that every time you go through a country town you will see them in the main streets.

They were referred to as horse troughs but if you look to the right you will see there is a very low part that when filled with water is suitable for dogs or small animals to drink from. So George's dream came true that no animal should be without water.

I believe it is still available today should a town wish to put a small "horse trough" in the trust still exists.

I have seen many, many of these over the years and some now have flowers in them or are used for fish many are painted in various colours and they are even still standing long after the last house has been moved form a town that is no more but to Mr George Bill's I thank you for this part of our towns history.

This is my Show and Tell Friday.

A very humane idea, and that one is a great example. I'll be on the lookout for them now.
