We have New neighbours "We are so Happy"

Yes! O! Yes! we have new Neighbours but not the kind you are thinking about! :)
We have a pair of Laughing Kookaburra's as new Neighbours.
They are having a family we are sure and laugh at us every morning.
The old saying "A Kookaburra laughs not at you but with you" is so true.

I KNOW.........Yes they are a little hard to see but I could not get too close as they are watching over eggs, not in the birdhouse but in a fruit tree. One is on the top of the birdhouse and the other on the top of the post can you see them?? :)

Here is a beautiful picture of a kookaburra, they are a member of the kingfisher family.

They are so beautiful and you know like us they pair up for life.

Both sexes have incubation duties and they both care for the young how civil is that!! they produce young between August and October.........So Rob & I could be neighbours to a big family come spring.

And another birthday................

Our first son Robert turned 37 yesterday (I cannot believe it 37!) were did all those years go.

Here he is with his new Harley Davidson a year or two back not the best photo of a good looking son but I know what a honey he is :)

He is daddy to two beautiful sons Big S the 7 year old and his little brother "J" He is a single dad and is one of the most lovable and caring daddies I know we are very proud of this Man our son.
I hope your day this Wednesday is filled with "Joy" as mine is.
Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree,
Merry merry king of the bush is he!
Laugh Kookaburra, Laugh kookaburra.
Happy life must be!

I am SO excited you shared these delightful little friends with us! I have never actually SEEN a kookaburra, but I used to sing the song alllllllll the time when I was a little girl! HOW FUN!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to your son also! Sounds like you've raised a GOOD man!

I've never seen this bird....I don't think we have them over here. But from your description, I wish we did.

Your son is an example of the good job you did as parents. I hope his birthday was everything he hoped for.

Yes, raising a good man is indeed a triumph these days. I'm still working on my two "works in progress".

Can you imagine what the first Europeans thought when they heard kookaburras for the first time? Australia presented them with a lot of unusual animals and birds!

LeeAnn,
We used to sing that song in grade school. Hadn't thought of it in years :)
Your son is one handsome guy. Happy Birthday to him. Being a single dad is a huge responsibility.

I've heard the Kookaburra song, but never saw one. Thank you for the photos.

Of course your son Robert is good looking. And so is that Harley! And his son's are precious too.

But oh my, that Harley! -giggles-

Lee-Anne, a beautiful post: kookas, your son and grandsons. Much happiness. Love the words of the Kookaburra song. In 1995, I was in Beijing for the UN Women's Forum. On the Wednesday, I came across a sort of impromptu concert where women from different nationalities were getting up to do an act. Now, I'm not much of a talent but I did want to do something - and something uniquely Australian. I decided to do the Kookaburra song and asked any Australians in the audience to join me. So another girl and, would you believe it, a guy got up and three of us sung this in parts. So now the song has even warmer memories for me. Fancy all our American friends knowing that song!

Blessings and bliss

Kookaburra sits on the telephone wire
Jumping up and down with his pants of fire

That's another version my grandkids taught me...lol!

Kookies are lovely birds, they sound so happy when they laugh, although most of the time it's a territorial thing.

I hope you have a lovely time with your new neighbours and that they allow you to see their babies when they hatch.

I hope those kookaburras wake you bright and early each morning with their cheerful laughter.

Blessing to your son, too.

Happy Birthday to Robert, he looks a son to be proud of.
I've heard of kookaburras and even had a vague idea what they look like but I didn't realise they were members of the kingfisher family. They look smaller than I imagined but very handsome. Look forward to seeing photos of baby kookaburras eventually, I imagine that they will be very cute.

I remember the Kookaburra song from elementary school. I loved that song very much. It's nice to see a picture of the birds that we were singing about. How fascinating & I didn't know they mated for life.

Happy Birthday to your son Robert...he looks like a fine man.
